An interesting post on About.com highlights nine danger foods for coeliacs, several of which are only too well known to most coeliacs, but a few of which you may not have thought of.
Common dangers:
Eating out in restaurants or friends houses who do not know or understand about your condition, beer and soy sauce, and prescription medicines which all too often use either a gluten-containing starch of some kind or lactose as a filler.
They also point out that 'wheat free' products are just that, wheat free – not necessarily gluten free as they may contain rye or barley.
The ones you might be less likely to think of are cream based soups which, if they are commercially made, all too often use wheat starch rather than cream to achieve their 'creaminess' and ice cream. Low fat ice creams often use gluten as a substitute for fat to bulk them out – so if you want ice cream, go luxury! But remember that cornets are wheat based and that there could be a good deal of gluten contamination even in a high-end ice cream parlour.
The last unlikely on os 'gourmet meats' usually sold on a dli counter. Even when they do not look as though they are crumbed, dressed or have a sauce, they may well have been cooked with some gluten-containing ingredient and of course there are endless opportunities for contamination on a deli counter.
